Dear Fellow Americans,
Barack Obama rode into the Presidency
on the crest of a wave of hope. A man
with such limited public experience that little was known about his views on crucial
issues like fiscal policy, national security and national defense, he
campaigned under the slogan “Change You Can Believe In.” He was careful not to explain what changes he
had in mind but he’s now been in office long enough for us to understand why he
didn’t want to share them with American voters before the election.
In the face of an economic
meltdown, the President pushed through Congress a $787 billion economic
stimulus package that most in Congress never read and vowed that unemployment
would never rise about 7.8%. It has now
risen to 10.2%. Whether any new jobs
actually have been created by this pork barrel is buried under a cloud of doubt
and bureaucratic doublespeak.
The Administration’s cynicism toward
this issue was caught in a comment made by White House Chief of Staff Rahm
Emanuel during a television interview.
He said you should “never let a serious crisis go to waste...It’s an
opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.” And those things apparently include making a
huge $787 billion addition to the nation’s deficit that has yet to show any
meaningful economic benefit.
The President’s dealing on the
international front also has raised eyebrows.
He made a speech in France – where citizens enjoy freedom as a direct
result of United States involvement in World War II and our stiff opposition to
Communism during the Cold War – in which he apologized for our country’s “arrogance.” Before the United Nations, he apologized for
American acting unilaterally without regard to the interests of others. He pulled the plug on missile-defense
agreements the Bush Administration negotiated with the Czech Republic and
Poland, winning the praise of Russia and Iran in the process.
President Obama has presided over
the most intrusive throttling of individual freedom ever undertaken by our
government under the guise of Health Care Reform. Not only that, but he had the audacity to
label as “extremists” the freedom-loving men and women who demonstrated on the
lawn of the U.S. Capitol and elsewhere in opposition to this action.
And then, of course, there is the
decision to provide terrorists who vowed to destroy our country with the
protection of the U.S. Constitution by putting them on trial in New York City
rather than trying them in a military tribunal.
By this decision, the President is treating terrorists like criminals
rather than enemies whose own words disclose the utter contempt in which they
hold America and Americans freedoms.
The list goes on and one. If you believe, as we do, that the inmates
have taken control of the asylum, Make Yourself Heard! by writing to your
representative in Congress, your Senators and, most importantly, gathering in
groups to demonstrate your opposition to what is happening to your
country. If you want to take it back,
get involved!
To help facilitate the process, we have created www.makeyourselfheard.org. The site will contain articles or opinions relating to proposed or pending legislation. Please suggest material for posting. This site is intended as a clearinghouse of information that will include drafts of letters to members of Congress or the Obama Administration on issues under consideration. We, (all of us, that is), have to call, meet with and write to our members of Congress, the Senate and the White House in order to Make Yourself Heard! This site and Make Yourself Heard! will become useful and have an impact with your help.
We invite you to check back often, and to contact us with any questions or suggestions that you have.
