<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Public Sexual Harassment is Now Illegal - As of this week, public sexual harassment is now a standalone criminal offence in England and Wales. This moment didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of sustained advocacy - from campaigners, organisations, and individuals who refused to accept that this behaviour should remain normalised or overlooked.</image:title>

<image:caption>Legislation matters. But how it is used matters more. The impact of this law will depend on: whether it is applied consistently whether victims feel able - and supported - to report whether it meaningfully changes everyday experiences in public spaces Because recognition in law is one step. Embedding it in practice is another.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Safeguarding After Suicide Bereavement - The case owner, MJ, is currently crowdfunding to secure specialist legal advice and early investigatory work after raising concerns about how multiple safeguarding systems responded when protection was needed most. According to the campaign, repeated warnings were raised with authorities across different agencies and jurisdictions. However, those concerns were allegedly delayed, overlooked, or mishandled, leaving MJ exposed to harm at a time when safeguarding systems should have provided urgent support.</image:title>

      <image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Research Opportunity - A message from Urvashi</image:title>
<image:caption>“My name is Urvashi Panchal, and I am a doctoral student and researcher at King’s College London. I am currently recruiting for an interview-based research project exploring the experience women of colour have navigating the criminal justice system following experiences of sexual violence in adulthood. We are also interested in understanding women’s support needs at this time. I feel very passionately about highlighting the experience of women of colour who are survivors. As a survivor myself and someone who’s worked at the havens (sexual assault referral centre), I’ve noticed that there’s just no research - and without this, there’s no change for women of colour! I’m really hoping to make a difference.”</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Gisèle on Newsnight - Before anything else, can we take a moment for this setting? The scale. The light. The stillness. Gisèle and Victoria are seated opposite each other in a vast, ornate room. The setting is grand - and fitting.</image:title>
<image:caption>Not spectacle for spectacle’s sake, but scale that mirrors the gravity of what is being spoken. Because Gisèle Pelicot’s story demands nothing less.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Deepfake Abuse: Now Illegal - Following months of campaigning by survivors, advocates and organisations including End Violence Against Women Coalition, Not Your Porn, Glamour UK, Professor Clare McGlynn and survivor-campaigner Jodie, a new law has come into force criminalising the creation of non-consensual intimate images - including AI-generated deepfakes. <image:title>NOTICEBOARD - The Met Said Lessons Were Learned - I sat through Edward Cornes’s inquest, and I’ve never felt such anger, frustration or sadness listening to police failures set out so starkly. A young man died in suspicious circumstances, and the investigation he deserved simply never happened.</image:title>
<image:caption>Key evidence lost. Witnesses never interviewed. Conflicting accounts left unchallenged. And, once again, harmful assumptions about sexuality shaping the narrative instead of facts. If the police aren’t taking a case like this seriously - a bright 19-year-old found dead, with two key witnesses giving inconsistent accounts - what hope is there for anyone seeking justice?</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - When The News Never Stops - Some days, the news doesn’t just inform us - it presses on us.</image:title>
<image:caption>Stories of violence against women and girls. Police failures that feel systemic, not exceptional. Powerful men protected by money and status; women silenced. Names surface again and again - Sean Combs, Jeffrey Epstein - reminders of how long abuse can hide in plain sight when power is involved. And this week, the pattern feels especially relentless.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - MYH 16 Days Spotlight - Change doesn’t happen in isolation - it comes from communities, networks, and individuals who use their voice and energy to push for better. In the work we do, we’ve been fortunate to connect with some incredible friends and allies who are leading conversations online, building awareness, and advocating for justice in powerful ways.</image:title>
<image:caption>Too often, the voices of victims and survivors are pushed aside, or the issues affecting them are spoken about without them. That’s why it matters so much to highlight and amplify people who are not only speaking truth, but also creating space for others to be heard. Our trusted friends are doing exactly that - whether by challenging harmful systems, raising awareness of rights, or using creativity and culture to connect people with the reality of what survivors face.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Young Voices, Big Impact - Youth Ambassadors will co-design a national communications campaign, take part in expert-led workshops, and visit key legal and political institutions while working alongside the Law Officers. No formal qualifications are required, and applicants from all backgrounds - especially creatives, community organisers, campaigners and young storytellers - are encouraged to apply. The programme runs from January to June 2026, offers a £200 participation grant, and aims to build a community of young leaders who can communicate why the rule of law matters in everyday life.</image:title>
<image:caption>Applications are open until 30 November. It’s encouraging to see a programme that not only targets younger audiences but actively hands them the tools to drive the conversation themselves</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Family Law Reform Protest - The FCR campaign is calling for urgent judicial reform, transparency, accountability, and mandatory training for all court professionals. They argue that unsafe rulings, a lack of trauma understanding, and the silencing of survivors’ voices have left families exposed to further harm. “Judges continue to make unsafe decisions that put both victims and their children at risk,” one spokesperson said. “The system is causing further harm instead of protection.”</image:title>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Invisible Women - When families lose loved ones to fatal male violence, the least they deserve is justice. Yet for too many Black, minoritised, and migrant (BMM) women - and their families - justice remains out of reach.</image:title>
<image:caption>On 31 October 2025, Killed Women launched INVISIBLE WOMEN, a groundbreaking campaign to confront systemic racism, neglect, and institutional failure across policing, justice, and support services. Family-led and survivor-driven, the campaign - co-chaired by Jhiselle Feanny (Killed Women) and Dr. Hannana Siddiqui OBE (Southall Black Sisters) - demands accountability, visibility, and reform. It amplifies the voices of bereaved families who are standing together to say: enough.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Why DIY Rape Kits Are Dangerous - Evidence collected at home isn’t legally sound</image:title>
<image:caption>Forensic evidence must be gathered in sterile, controlled conditions to avoid contamination and preserve what’s known as the “chain of custody.” A self-testing kit can’t meet those standards, meaning any DNA obtained is unlikely to be accepted in court. Even if a lab can detect another person’s DNA, the result would not hold up as credible forensic evidence.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - When AI Turns Women into Objects - That’s the warning from Pam Saxby, a South African journalist and long-time activist who’s been raising awareness about how AI text-to-image tools are being used to objectify women and reproduce old patterns of exploitation through new technology.</image:title>
<image:caption>In a series of recent articles and posts, Pam highlights how online ‘art’ platforms -many of them community-run and lightly moderated - have become spaces where over-sexualised, non-consensual, and distorted portrayals of women thrive. “AI apps have taken the sexual objectification of women to another level,” she writes. “They make the tools for creating such imagery widely accessible, even free.”</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Let’s Talk About Rape - In a world where silence around sexual violence persists, a groundbreaking survivor-led project is refusing to look away. Let’s Talk About Rape® is not just a book. It is a movement - one that confronts stigma head-on, restores agency to those who have lived through violence, and invites readers into a dialogue that society has too often avoided.</image:title>
<image:caption>Through intimate photography and raw personal testimonies, survivors from across the world step forward to reclaim their voices. Each portrait is created in collaboration, each testimony written in the survivor’s own words, and every page speaks to a truth long suppressed: that survivors are not defined by what was done to them. They are defined by their resilience, dignity, and refusal to be silenced. This feature takes a closer look at the vision, process, and impact of Let’s Talk About Rape®, exploring why this book matters, how it was made, and what it offers - not only to survivors, but to us all.</image:caption>

      <image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Now Visible - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Identifying gaps and driving change Through advocacy, education, and research, NowVisible is exposing the cracks in existing systems and calling attention to what’s been missing: Evidence use: Many PBR carry genetic links to rapists. NowVisible is working to ensure that DNA can be used, with consent, to support rape prosecutions. Support access: PBR and their families often face barriers when trying to access mental health care, identity support, or information about their conception. NowVisible is demanding better pathways and compassionate responses. Stigma reduction: Language matters. NowVisible’s first campaign, Language Without Stigma, calls on institutions to stop using dehumanising and harmful terminology when referring to people born from rape. Training and collaboration NowVisible delivers training to professionals across healthcare, social care, and the justice system to improve understanding and responses to PBR. Their training is grounded in lived experience and focuses on building trauma-informed, victim-centred approaches that are respectful, nuanced, and rights-based. They are also forming partnerships with other national and international organisations, survivors, researchers, and policymakers - working together to strengthen support, raise awareness, and demand accountability.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - The Play That Heard Us - There are some stories you don’t just watch - you carry them with you. Prima Facie is one of those stories. If you’ve seen it, or even just heard someone try to put it into words, you’ll know what I mean. Jodie Comer stands alone on stage for the entire play, but it never feels like she’s alone. She’s talking to us - not just as an audience, but as people who’ve lived in a world where the legal system doesn’t always feel like it’s working for us. She plays Tessa, a sharp, ambitious barrister who’s worked her way up from a working-class background. She’s brilliant at her job. She knows how to dismantle witness testimony. She knows how the law works. And then something happens - something she can’t just argue her way out of. And suddenly, the system she’s spent her whole life defending doesn’t defend her.</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s something gutting about watching someone who believes in the rules realise that those rules aren’t built for everyone. Especially not survivors. Especially not women. Especially not when it comes to sexual violence. Prima Facie doesn’t tell us what to think. It shows us how it feels. The shock. The shame. The loneliness. The fury. And it holds that discomfort - without looking away. For a lot of us, that hits deep. Because we know what it’s like to feel powerless in the face of systems that are supposed to protect us. We know how exhausting it is to explain something traumatic and still not be believed. To be asked for more proof, more details, more strength than anyone should have to give. That’s why this play matters. Not just because it’s well written or beautifully acted - but because it says things we often don’t know how to say. It puts pain into words and demands that people sit with it. And sometimes, that’s where change starts.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - ManKind Initiative - When we think of domestic abuse, the conversation often centres on women, given the scale of violence they face. But men can and do experience abuse too, often in silence. Shame, stigma, and the fear of not being believed keep many from reaching out. The ManKind Initiative exists to change that. Founded in 2001, ManKind Initiative was the first charity in the UK dedicated to supporting male victims of domestic abuse. For over two decades, it has been a confidential and compassionate service for men across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, as well as for the friends, families, and professionals who support them.</image:title>
<image:caption>Why this work matters Domestic abuse against men is less visible but no less real. Abuse can take many forms - physical violence, threats, intimidation, control, bullying, insults, or having objects thrown. It can happen in marriages, heterosexual partnerships, and same-sex relationships. The silence around male victims often comes from social expectations. Many men feel they won’t be taken seriously, or that admitting abuse undermines their identity. Others worry about being judged, laughed at, or even blamed. ManKind’s services challenge that silence. They start with a clear message: if you are a man experiencing domestic abuse, you are not alone, and you deserve support.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>NOTICEBOARD - ManKind Initiative - The human impact</image:title>
<image:caption>The importance of having a place to turn to cannot be overstated. For a man who has lived with years of abuse, the helpline can be the first time he has ever said the words out loud. For a friend or colleague, it can be the reassurance that they are doing the right thing by seeking help. Knowing that the call is confidential and won’t appear on a phone bill can make the difference between silence and reaching out. That small detail reflects something bigger: ManKind Initiative understands the fears that keep victims hidden and works to remove them.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Galop - When we talk about support for survivors of abuse and violence, too often the experiences of LGBTQ+ people are overlooked. Galop exists to change that. Founded in 1982, Galop is the UK’s leading charity for LGBTQ+ people who have experienced abuse and violence. For many, it has become a lifeline - offering not just support, but also recognition, understanding, and hope.</image:title>
<image:caption>Why Galop is needed Abuse against LGBTQ+ people doesn’t always look like the stereotypes society imagines. It can take the form of homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia from strangers, but also domestic abuse from partners or family members, sexual violence, or so-called “conversion practices.” These experiences are compounded by stigma and fear of not being believed. Too often, mainstream services have failed LGBTQ+ survivors - some have felt invisible, others have faced outright discrimination. Galop fills that gap. Its services begin with a simple but radical message: you don’t need to explain or defend who you are to be supported here.</image:caption>

<image:title>NOTICEBOARD - Domestic Abuse Support Line - The National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, is a free, confidential, 24-hour service for women experiencing domestic abuse. It is open every day of the year, ensuring that whenever someone reaches a point of fear, crisis, or uncertainty, there is always someone ready to listen. Domestic abuse can take many forms - emotional, physical, financial, sexual, or controlling behaviours. If you find yourself feeling isolated, constantly walking on eggshells, or changing your behaviour out of fear of a partner’s reaction, this service is here for you. No matter your circumstances, you are not alone.</image:title>
<image:caption>When you call the Helpline (0808 2000 247) or use the live chat, you’ll be connected with highly trained female advisers. They won’t judge you or tell you what to do - instead, they will listen, support you in understanding your rights and options, and empower you to make your own decisions. They can help you plan for safety, explore routes out of abuse, and, if needed, connect you with safe accommodation such as a refuge. Support is available in many languages, and British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters can be arranged during working hours. Calls are free and can be made completely anonymously. Refuge reminds every survivor that what is happening to them is not their fault. Abuse is never acceptable, and help is out there. Whether you’re still living with an abuser, preparing to leave, or have already left, the Helpline can support you through each step. You don’t have to face it alone - reaching out can be the first step towards safety, dignity, and hope.</image:caption>

      <image:title>ART - Inside Out - Same-Sex Domestic and Sexual Violence</image:title>
<image:caption>Same-Sex Domestic and Sexual Violence is so rarely spoken about, yet it consumed my life for so long. With no real support systems or organisations clearly dedicated to the cause, I felt so lost, so confused and so small. All I wanted for so long was for someone to say “I can relate” or “I have been through what you have.” It was then when I realized if I never spoke up, how could I expect others to do the same? It’s about time we made a community. It’s about time we spoke up about what needs to be better. It’s about time the Government, the CPS and other organisations DO BETTER, to make sure that resources and support services are for everybody. Nobody deserves to feel invisible. - Jasmine</image:caption>

<image:title>ART - Razed Here - When I think about what has inspired my poetry/ activism, the short story is that my family taught me about interconnectedness and care for others. My parents are Anglo-Indian and Anglo-Burmese working class immigrants. For those that don’t know, the Anglo-Indian and Anglo-Burmese communities trace their roots back to English and Irish soldiers who came to India and Burma during colonial times. It’s a complicated inheritance, yet one that’s formed its own culture in India, Burma and in the UK.</image:title>

<image:caption>‘Stolen Daughter’ (01.06.22) by Her Mum Blue eyeliner pencil on skin. Created as a small ritual of grief and resistance in response to domestic violence and family court abuse, this work is rewritten each time it fades — a daily act of remembrance and determination to seek justice for a stolen child. Written on the womb that grew her, it keeps the artist’s hands busy and her purpose clear. Since sharing this piece, the artist has received other womb-written stories from mothers, grandmothers, aunts and siblings whose children have been taken or are missing — a reminder that child removal creates ripples of unspoken grief across entire families and communities.</image:caption>

<image:title>RIGHT TO BE REVIEWED CAMPAIGN - Not Loud, But Moving - April ‘26 - We’ve been a little quieter than usual. But that doesn’t mean things have slowed down. Over the past few weeks, work on the Victims’ Right to Review (VRR) has continued behind the scenes - building on the recent amendment brought forward in the House of Lords. For those following, the amendment focused on a very specific issue - but one with real consequences.</image:title>

<image:title>RIGHT TO BE REVIEWED CAMPAIGN - Why the Right to Review Matters - March ‘26 - Reporting sexual offences is a huge decision and a personal commitment to continue if the path is not smooth, as it was for me. There are so many factors that a complainant would not even be aware of; one is the right to have a negative charging decision reviewed if they feel it was incorrect.</image:title>
<image:caption>In my case, I reported historical sexual abuse I'd suffered when I was a teenager. At 14, I was groomed and at 15 was subjected to sustained sexual abuse by my sister's much older boyfriend. Grooming is a very powerful thing; it distorted my sense of what had happened for a very long time, decades in fact.</image:caption>

<image:title>RIGHT TO BE REVIEWED CAMPAIGN - Why the Right to Review Matters - March ‘26 - I was horrified to learn that the VRR isn't/wasn't available in all cases: Specifically, I am discussing cases in which there are victims of threat, violence and sexual offences.</image:title>

<image:title>RIGHT TO BE REVIEWED CAMPAIGN - The VRR Pilot Expands - Jan ‘26 - It is important to be clear that this remains a pilot. Expansion allows further learning before decisions are made about permanence. At Make Yourself Heard, and through our Right to Be Reviewed campaign, we continue to emphasise that pilots must lead to clear conclusions, informed by evidence and lived experience.</image:title>
<image:caption>This expansion demonstrates progress, with learning from lived experience beginning to shape how the justice system responds. The task now is to ensure this right is strengthened, protected, and delivered nationally.</image:caption>

<image:title>JOURNAL - I Survived The Crime But The System Broke Me - Having been in an abusive relationship for about 18 months, not recognising it as such for much of that time, I eventually reported my ex-partner to the police in May 2021. I was believed, he was arrested and so began the difficult week of giving evidence and coming to terms with the scale of the abuse I’d experienced. It was hell going back over the horror. I had learned how to survive by shutting down and just getting through each day. However speaking about it opened everything up – the guilt, the questions and a kind of disbelief at what I’d accepted as normal.</image:title>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Beyond Debate - After experiencing extreme delays in my case as the complainant of sexual offences I made a very conscious decision to waive my anonymity and push for change. It was a leap of faith that I’d be listened to beyond the obvious empathy cases like mine attracts. I didn’t do it for that.</image:title>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Beyond Debate - Once I engaged with people who knew what was being proposed I felt a huge sense of reassurance. It was explained in practical and legal terms what the reform actually is and how it will work. Jury trials aren’t being arbitrarily removed, instead they’ll be assessed and allocated a trial pathway. This felt safer and less contentious. It felt like something I could get behind. It safeguards defendants without them being able to use the system to their advantage.</image:title>
<image:caption>Without radical change such as removing the right to elect for jury trials for either way offences the British justice system will continue to fail and harm to people it’s there to provide justice to. The delays isn’t an abstract problem that only exists in statistic. It destroys lives, psychologically harms and socially isolates in the same real way the crimes themselves do.</image:caption>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Who Am I to Be Here? - Imposter syndrome is often treated as a private insecurity - something to overcome quietly before you show up publicly. But in advocacy, it isn’t a side issue. It’s part of the work. It shows up not because you’re underqualified, but because the ground is unstable. Advocacy often asks people with lived experience to translate pain into policy language, to compress years of harm into a few minutes of “constructive contribution,” and to speak calmly about systems that failed them - repeatedly. That tension creates doubt.</image:title>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Taking a Breather - This weekend reminded me that it is possible to hold anger and care at the same time. To remain critical of systems while being gentle with ourselves. To understand that stepping back does not weaken the work - it sustains it. The work does not disappear when we rest. It waits. And when we return, we do so with greater clarity and steadiness.</image:title>

<image:title>JOURNAL - You’re Special - My name is Andreia Nobre. I’m a Brazilian journalist and writer who has been living abroad since 2004. I started speaking openly about surviving child sexual abuse around 2009, after I gave birth to my first child. This is a story about how grooming works and how male-dominated societies protect men who commit sexual abuse.</image:title>

<image:title>JOURNAL - You’re Special - After he also got away with abusing his own daughter, and a niece of his wife, who was living with them, he then started abusing other girls who lived in his street and who were friends with his daughter, something I also have evidence. The grooming attempt this man tried on me was as follows.</image:title>
<image:caption>My mum was a seamstress. That is how she met her partner, my stepfather, because his female cousin was one of my mum’s customers. Since they were together, my stepfather’s cousin and her family became “family/relatives”, and I would often go to their house to play with her little daughter. When I was 8, she was 6 years old, and she was teaching me how to ride a bicycle. One day, I was at their place and, when I was about to leave to go back home, my stepfather’s cousin called me to her bedroom. I remember staying under the doorframe of her bedroom and refusing to go in, which she found odd. I explained that it was hers and her husband’s bedroom, and it would be disrespectful of me to go in, to which she replied, “He doesn’t sleep here anymore.” Reassured, I went in, and she gave me haberdashery to deliver to my mum. I then left her bedroom and saw her husband at the end of the corridor, watching me leave. He had an expression I could not understand at the time, that now I can only identify as a plan forming in his head. Days after that, he called me too when I was leaving his house, just like his wife did.</image:caption>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Jury-less Trials Terrify Me - I haven’t slept properly since the Government mentioned abolishing jury trials for some offences. This is not because juries are perfect – they’re not- but because they’re the only form of oversight within the justice system. When I first started speaking out about the judges’ lack of accountability a couple of years ago, I did so because of something my family lived through and something that opened my eyes to a problem I never knew existed. Most of the public don’t know about this either.</image:title>

I told myself no one would understand, that people would judge me or think I’d lost control. The shame was relentless. Each morning, I’d wake up and promise to stop. Each night I’d pour another drink, whispering, just one more time. But what I know now is this: shame thrives in silence. And I wasn’t alone, even if I felt that way.</image:caption>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Inside the Met - The cost of disbelief</image:title>
<image:caption>The Panorama footage matters because it shows what happens behind closed doors - when the cameras are off and survivors cannot hear what is being said about them. When a rape allegation is dismissed with a shrug, that disbelief is not abstract. It determines whether suspects are charged, whether victims are protected, and whether survivors feel safe enough to report again. The Casey Review, published after the murder of Sarah Everard by a serving officer, concluded that the Met was institutionally racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. Panorama suggests that, despite leadership promises, those cultural failings have not been eradicated - they have simply gone underground.</image:caption>

      <image:title>JOURNAL - No Perfect Time, Only Now</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve been putting off launching Make Yourself Heard (M.Y.H) for a long time. The idea has been with me for years - scribbled in notebooks, swirling in late-night thoughts, appearing in conversations with friends - but I hesitated. It wasn’t because I doubted the need. Quite the opposite: I knew how vital it was for survivors to have spaces that belong to us, not just about us. What held me back was fear. Fear of stepping into a role I didn’t feel qualified for. Fear of being judged. Fear that people would look at me and wonder: Who is she to start something like this? That’s the grip of imposter syndrome. It tells you to shrink when you want to stand tall. It whispers that your voice doesn’t count, even when your lived experience is the very reason you need to speak. It convinces you that unless you’re perfect, polished, certain, and unshakeable, you have no right to lead. For a long time, I listened to that voice. And yet, another voice inside me - quieter but steadier - kept insisting: this isn’t just about you. It’s about all of us.</image:caption>

      <image:title>JOURNAL - No Perfect Time, Only Now</image:title>
<image:caption>Why I Finally Did It The turning point came when I realised that waiting for the “perfect” time was a trap. There is no perfect time. Every day, people are let down by a justice system that is supposed to protect them. Every day, survivors feel isolated, unheard, and powerless. Every day, opportunities for solidarity and creativity slip by if we don’t seize them. I also realised that M.Y.H was never meant to be mine alone. It’s not about one survivor’s story, but about building a platform where many voices can come together. Once I shifted the focus away from myself and onto the collective, the fear started to loosen its grip.</image:caption>

      <image:title>JOURNAL - Fighting for Accountability</image:title>
<image:caption>Charlotte's interaction with the police complaints team began in 2023 when she submitted the complaint. At the outset, she felt hopeful and empowered. Reporting her concerns was not just a formality; it represented a step towards reclaiming her sense of agency and seeking justice. With high expectations, she believed that the professional standards team would take her concerns seriously and act diligently, ensuring the police would learn from their mistakes. However, this hope quickly gave way to frustration as she entered the complaints process. The reality she encountered was marked by bureaucratic hurdles and a lack of responsiveness, leaving her feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Despite her optimism, Charlotte soon discovered that the police complaints process was riddled with inefficiencies that complicated her journey for justice. Charlotte's primary complaint stemmed from what she perceived as systemic failures on the part of the police. When she initiated the process, she was unaware of the significant barriers she would face. The online complaint form, designed to be user-friendly, proved inadequate for conveying the complexity of her grievances. With limited character space, she struggled to articulate the depth of her experience. The small text box felt almost like a trap, pushing complainants to summarise their issues rather than fully express the seriousness of their concerns. She resorted to crafting a detailed letter laying out her grievances to navigate this barrier. However, she faced another obstacle: the submission process was convoluted and unclear. "I had to submit the form and then respond to an email with an attachment," she recounted, underscoring the unnecessary complexity that made the process even more frustrating. This lack of clarity and accessibility was a recurring theme throughout her experience, contributing to a sense of helplessness as she endeavoured to make her voice heard. As Charlotte continued through the complaints process, the impersonal nature of her interactions took a significant emotional toll on her. Responses came from a communal inbox rather than a dedicated officer, creating a sense of distance that left her feeling unheard and invalidated. "I felt like I was talking to a wall," she expressed, highlighting the emotional disconnect that permeated her experience. Each automated response felt like a reminder of her vulnerability within a system designed to protect citizens, yet one that often fell short in delivering justice. In one particularly disheartening instance, Charlotte received a response that dismissed her concerns entirely. "I asked the officer in charge about my complaints, and she simply said it didn't happen. So, therefore, it didn't happen," she recalled, highlighting the gaslighting nature of such dismissals. This response failed to address her complaints, instead compounding her frustration and helplessness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>JOURNAL - The Sexsomnia Loophole - My Case</image:title>
<image:caption>I reported being raped by a man I knew. I expected my account to be taken seriously, investigated thoroughly, and tested in court. Instead, after months of interviews and evidence gathering, I was told the CPS had decided not to prosecute and closed my case 13 days before the trial. Their reasoning was devastating: they concluded that I had been asleep and experiencing sexsomnia during the assault. I had never been diagnosed with sexsomnia, had no history of parasomnias, and had not undergone any kind of medical assessment. This was not a contested defence in front of a jury - it was a unilateral decision by prosecutors, made before my case reached trial. The assumption that I had sexsomnia was used to remove intent from the accused’s actions and to close the case entirely. It left me without justice, without a voice in my own case, and with the knowledge that a medically unverified condition had been applied to me without my input. Frustrated and determined to prove the claim unfounded, I sought out private consultations with specialist sleep clinicians. I underwent the tests that should have been ordered by the justice system - overnight studies, in-depth assessments, and medical reviews. Every specialist came to the same conclusion: there was no evidence I had sexsomnia. It was both vindicating and deeply troubling. I had been forced to carry the financial and emotional burden of disproving a condition the courts had assigned to me without a shred of medical basis.</image:caption>

<image:title>JOURNAL - Sex, Trauma and Healing - The First Time After: Reclaiming My Body</image:title>
<image:caption>When I was raped, I was in a relationship. In those first few days afterwards, I was consumed by fear that the violation would ruin my ability to be intimate. I felt that if I didn’t have sex with my partner when I next saw him, I never would again. Almost as though I needed to rip the band-aid off. That first time back together was emotional and raw, but I needed it. It was slow, intimate, and safe. I knew I was in control, and I knew he understood. It wasn’t about ignoring what happened - it was about realigning, about reassuring myself and us as a couple that this wouldn’t break us. But not every time was like that. There were moments when we were intimate, and I would suddenly freeze, break down, or burst into tears. The trauma didn’t simply leave my body; it lingered, and it would resurface at unexpected moments. I was lucky to be met with patience, reassurance, and complete acceptance. But it took me years to understand that these moments didn’t mean I was failing or that sex was permanently ruined for me. Triggers don’t always make sense. Healing isn’t linear. What mattered most was allowing myself to feel what I needed to feel and knowing that my partner and I were in this together.</image:caption>
