Shattered Heart by Elaine, a continuous survivor
Elaine describes Shattered Heart as a heart replicated by the world and a volcanic eruption.
The World - because your whole world shatters and your heart breaks. The world carries on, but nothing is the same.
The Volcano - this represents the outpouring of emotions and the anger at both the perpetrator and the justice system - the intensity of the hurt. The fire and heat reflect the battle of trying to get justice. A volcano will eventually stop, but the ashes remain. Life may eventually find a new normality, but the devastation of violence will always stay in the soul of the victim. It is devastating not only for the victim, but also for family and friends - of both the victim and the perpetrator. The hurt and devastation spread far and wide.
This piece was needle felted - a very therapeutic process of stabbing wool with a felting needle. For Elaine, it became a peaceful, cathartic way to release anger.
Elaine describes herself as a continuous survivor: “I don’t think it ever comes to a final"
