Domestic Abuse Support Line

24/7 Support Line run by refuge

The National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, is a free, confidential, 24-hour service for women experiencing domestic abuse. It is open every day of the year, ensuring that whenever someone reaches a point of fear, crisis, or uncertainty, there is always someone ready to listen.

Domestic abuse can take many forms - emotional, physical, financial, sexual, or controlling behaviours. If you find yourself feeling isolated, constantly walking on eggshells, or changing your behaviour out of fear of a partner’s reaction, this service is here for you. No matter your circumstances, you are not alone.

When you call the Helpline (0808 2000 247) or use the live chat, you’ll be connected with highly trained female advisers. They won’t judge you or tell you what to do - instead, they will listen, support you in understanding your rights and options, and empower you to make your own decisions. They can help you plan for safety, explore routes out of abuse, and, if needed, connect you with safe accommodation such as a refuge.

Support is available in many languages, and British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters can be arranged during working hours. Calls are free and can be made completely anonymously.

Refuge reminds every survivor that what is happening to them is not their fault. Abuse is never acceptable, and help is out there. Whether you’re still living with an abuser, preparing to leave, or have already left, the Helpline can support you through each step.

You don’t have to face it alone - reaching out can be the first step towards safety, dignity, and hope.
