M.Y.H Is One

One year of lived experience, community and change

By Jade Blue

A year ago, Make Yourself Heard started with a simple idea: create more space for lived experience, make systems a little easier to understand, and help important stories, campaigns and voices travel further.

Twelve months later, that little idea has grown into something that feels very real - a community of survivors, campaigners, creatives, organisations and people who care about making change happen.

Over the past year, we’ve published Journals, shared campaigns and opportunities, created Know Your Rights features, amplified brilliant work and tried to make difficult information feel a little more accessible.

We’ve also taken a big step forward, with M.Y.H recently officially becoming a Community Interest Company - giving us a proper foundation to build from and explore what this space could become next.

There have been some special moments along the way, including seeing lived experience help contribute to real change. But the biggest milestone is still the people who have gathered around M.Y.H.

Everyone who has written for us, trusted us with their experience, sent over a campaign, shared an idea, bought a zine, donated, reposted something or followed along quietly has helped shape what this has become.

M.Y.H was never meant to be about one voice. It was about creating more room for many of them - and showing that lived experience deserves to be part of the conversations, decisions and systems that affect people’s lives.

We’re still small. We’re still learning. And we still have a lot more to build. But one year in, the belief behind M.Y.H feels stronger than ever:

Built on lived experience. Driven by community. Powered by the belief that when people are heard, change becomes possible.

Thank you for being part of year one. Here’s to what comes next.

One voice can start something. A community can carry it forward.
